In 2001-02 Topps still held control of the O-Pee-Chee name and decided to release an Archives Set. Now this is pretty common today with Topps baseball but for the hockey side this was the first time a stand- alone set was issued.
They had hit the archives a few times in the previous years with some retro inserts and archive reissues (normally focusing on one player such as the Mario Lemieux reprint in 2000-01 and 2001-02.)
O-Pee-Chee had done a nice reissue of Rookie Cards in the well known 25th Anniversary Reissue Insert in the 1992-93 O-Pee-Chee (as well as being an including an early version of the reissuse by using the same design with new images sprinkled throughout the base set)
In 1998-99 Topps hit the rewind button and included O-Pee-Chee rookie reprints in their Blast From The Past insert.
2001-02 as noted was the first stand alone set and consisted of 81 cards including..
3 great goalies in Bernie Parent, Tony Esposito and Jacques Plante. Of the 3 I only had the luck to see Tony O play however it was on some early 80’s Hawks teams. The problem with Hawks teams is they had to go through Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton and others to get anywhere in the playoffs.
