Not content with just having the cards in the boxes and on the bottom of the boxes in the 1999-2000 series O-Pee-Chee (now just a shell owned by Topps) started to put out Jumbos measuring 3 1/4″ x 4 9/16″ as an added bonus in each box.
For the next few years they continued this trend which leads us to the 2002-03 release.
These Jumbos were also known as Box Toppers (because the card was inside the box on top of the packs) and were issued 1 per retail box. I suspect most stayed with the retail card shop if they were selling by the pack. But if you bought a full box you were guaranteed to get one and I think they are pretty nice.
Below you can see the size difference between the regular card and the Jumbo.
From the front the only difference is size. Same Photo, Same font, same foil same everything.
On the back, again everything is the same (with the exception of the numbering). But I’m ok with that.
If it was a horizontal card in the set, it was a horizontal card in the Jumbo.
The selection of players was pretty good and contained most of the bigger names of the previous year.
I kinda like them and when they come up for potential trades I will be happy to add them.
