When I first saw a listing for a Deckle Edge card I honestly did not know what it meant. But I knew where to find the answer (no not Google). I asked my dad. He told me it just meant a rough edge when paper is made before it is all cut nice and smooth.
I guess, in a way, all Vintage O-Pee-Chee cards are sort of a deckle edge (inside joke for O-Pee-Chee fans as they used to cut their cards with a wire which left a rough edge, unlike Topps who used a blade).
In 1970-71 O-Pee-Chee purposefully left their new Photo inserts with a deckle edge and inserted them in packs of their Hockey cards.
I like the look, very simple, slightly smaller than a regular card and in Black and White. Just the player and their facsimile autograph (which is in Blue Ink).
The back was pretty spartan.
The name of the player and the number in the set. It doesn’t even say O-Pee-Chee anywhere. Or printed in Canada.
I picked up a few of these and they look pretty sharp.
All nicely posed. The vast majority of the set is the same waist up shot but there are a couple almost full body ones. Lots of big names in the set including Hull, Esposito and Orr but they will have to wait for another day for me to grab them.
