Thanks to the generous trading from my friend Eriqulous on TCDB I’m able to pick up some nice modern inserts in exchange for his favourite players and teams.

I most recently picked up over 30 of the 2010-11 O-Pee-Chee Retro parallel and there is a lot to like about them. Especially if you like bright primary colours.

Each card comes on a Blue, Orange, Green OR Red background and has a black and white picture with their name on it. Very simple and nice.

They are of course a tribute to the original 1933-34 O-Pee-Chee set. Unlike Topps which can reprint their own designs, Upper Deck (who owns the O-Pee-Chee name now) can pay homage, but not duplicate the original designs unless they want to get sued again.

Of course the difference being that the original set did each card with each background colour. The full set was 48 cards with 4 versions of each. But you can see where the modern inspiration came from.

The backs are the typical retro basic. No stats, just who they are (First Initial & Last Name only), who they play for and some basic information. I’m not sure why they don’t put stats on the back of the retro cards. I guess they think it looks more retro this way?

Well with the excellent help from my friend I move to

2011-12 O-Pee-Chee Retro Parallel – 111/600 for 18.50%
